ADOPTION OF JOSIAS LITCHFIELD

These prsents Witnesse that the 20th of march 1657/8 Judith the wife of Willam Peaks acknowlidged that her former husband Lawrance Lichfeild lying on his Death bedd sent for John Allin and Ann his wife and Desired to give and bequeath unto them his youngest son Josias Lichfeild if they would accept of him and take him as theire Child; then they Desired to know how long they should have him and the said Lawrance said for ever; but the mother of the child was not willing then; but in a short time after willingly Concented to her husbands will in the thinge; if the said John and Ann would take the Child for theire adopted Child; wherunto they Assented; and the said Judith therupon sent the Child unto them and Desired her child might call them father and mother and yett owne her for his Naturall mother as longe as shee should live; whereto all sides Concented; and the said Josias being asked by his owne mother the Day and yeare above written if hee Did Concent and Chuse to live with the said John and Ann as hithero by the space of about nine yeares hee had Done; Willingly answared yea; in the prsence of mr James Cudworth and henery Dunster and Timothy hatherley and in witnesse of the prmises the prsons have heerunto sett theire hands
