Massachusetts Documents 6 RESOLVES, October 16, 1781. This document lists several resolutions pertaining to different subjects. Resolution CCXXIV is located in the middle of the page. The document reads as follows: Resolve empowering the Selectmen of the town of Cambridge to bind out a certain negro child belonging to the estate of Thomas Oliver, Esq; an absentee. October 16, 1781. On the petition of Jeffe Putnam, Agent on the estate of Thomas Oliver, Esq; an absentee, representing that a male negro child, belonging to said Oliver, about six years old, very weakly and needs support; and as said Oliver's estate has been sold, and the proceeds paid into the public treasury; and as it appears to this court that there are persons that will undertake to support said child, and indemnify the Commonwealth of any farther expence. Resolved, That the selectmen of the town of Cambridge be, and they are hereby requested and impowered, to bind out said negro child to some suitable person, that will undertake to support him(if any there be) until he shall arrive to the age of twenty-one years; and the said selectmen are requested to lay the accounts of the expences that hath already arisen on account of supporting said child before the committee on accounts for allowance and payment.

Bridgwater, Mass. Tax record dated April 1, l793. It is in primitive book form, bound by string and measures 4 3/4" x 3" containing 6 pages. It lists the townspeople and the amount owed for Poll, Real Estate and Personal Estate Taxes. It is signed by the assessors. Names include Amos Hayward, Benjamin Packard, Eliah or Eliab Hayward, John Whitman, Seth Pratt (Large file when viewed full size)
This land transfer document begins: "This Indenture Of Four Parts made the twenty fifth day of April in the fifteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France, and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy five " The land in documented in Norfolk County Virginia. The document is hand written on lambskin and includes royal seals, a multitude of royal tax stamps, and signatures including William Townshend. Possibly the William Townshend who is a close relative of Charles Townshend who initiated the Townshend acts, which led to the Boston Tea Party. Other names include Samuel Coulson, or Samuel Coulsey, Edward Smtih, Jenkin Mather ?, Nich. Edwards ?
Note dated June 1799, Kingston (Plymouth County, Massachusetts) to Captain William White stating "there is something due to me that has been sometime standing that I wish you to pay John Bradford 10/6 (pounds, shillings) & take his receipt for your security. Signed Yours, Pelham Bradford.
