Easton, Massachusetts:  Notes from marriages of Kimball, Williams, Bruce, Howard and Packard.

Original colonial Massachusetts deed dated December 18, 1742 whereby Nathaniel Hooper of Bridgewater is sold a lot in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay Colony by Thomas Conant. In part, this handwritten document reads as follows: "To all people to whom these presents shall come know ye yt I Thomas Conant of Bridwater in the county of Plymouth yeoman for & in consideration of the sum of thirty-five pounds in bills of credit of the old tennor to me in hand before the ensealing here of well & truly paid by Nathaniel Hooper of sd Bridgwater yeoman the receipt where of I do hereby acknowledg and my self satisfied and paid and by the presents I do give grant bargain ...& confirm to him Nathaniel Hooper his heirs and assigns for ever three acers and three quarters of land by the same more or less scituate in sd Bridgwater being part of the ninteenth great lot in Kahtetquit so called bounded as followeth...."   Witnessed by Benjamin White (Justice of the Peace) and Samuel Lenard (Leonard) and signed by Thomas Conant.

Five Dollar,colonial currency,from the State of Massachusetts. Among the signatures is that of Laommi Baldwin;b.1745d.1807.During the Revolutionary war he entered the war with the rank of Major and was thick in the Battle of Lexington, took part in the surprise attack of the Hessions at Trenton,but was forced to retire in 1777 with the rank of Colonel,due to ill health.He turned his efforts to politics and was member of the State Legislature,1778-80,owner of the Middlesex Canal,member of the Academy of Sciences.Propagator of the Baldwin apple.

This is an original pre-Revolutionary War handwritten document that conveys meadowland in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, from the seller (Ebenezer Leach) to the buyer (Joseph Leach). It is dated "this sixteenth day of May and in the thirty first year of His Majesties Reign, AD 1758". In the bottom right corner of the document is the seal. It measures about 7 1/2" by 12" Other names include Samuel Packard, Ephraim Leach, Joseph Cowen (?), Israel Washburn.

Document Dated 1796 From Aaron Blaney And Captain William Laurence For Bording Himself And Fifteen Of His Men Augest 13 1796 For The Sum Of 39.00 Dollars Boston, Massachusetts 1796

Psalms Of David and also Collection Of Hymns-1771. Printed by John Fleeming and sold at his shop in King Street, opposite the South Door of the Townhouse in Boston, Massachusetts. This book belonged to Jacob Washburn and has his family history. Leather bound.  Other family names include Marcy or Mercy Washburn, Caleb, Cephas, Luke, Sarah, and several that are not clear.

Early Mortgage on Property in Lancaster, MA, dated Nov. 15, 1768. It was granted to Aaron Osgood by John Erving in the amount of 100 Pounds. The body of the document (in part) reads as follows:

TO all People to whom these Present shall come, GREETING
Know ye That I Aaron Osgood of a Place called Ervingshire in the County of Hampshire Gentleman
For and in consideration of the Sum of One Hundred Pounds lawfull Money to me in Hand before the Ensealing hereof, well and truly paid by John Erving of Boston in the County of Suffolk Esquire the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and myself therewith fully satisfied and contented; and thereof, and every Part and Parcel thereof, do exonerate, acquit and discharge him the said John Erving his Heirs, Executors and Administrators, forever by these Presents: HAVE given, granted, bargained, sold aliened, conveyed and confirmed; and by these Presents Do freely, fully and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, aliene, convey and confirm unto him the said John Erving his Heirs and Assigns forever A certain Tract or Parcel of Land Situated in the westerly part of the Second Precinct in Lancaster in the County of Worcester containing Ninety Nine acres Bounded South on a Town Road, East on Land of Bartholomew Pearson and on Land of Oliver Powers North on Land of Jonathan Wilder  west on Land of the Heirs of Samuel Kendall and on Land of the saif Oliver Powers till it comes to the aforesaid Town Road~~

(It continues after additional verbage) ....Provided nevertheless if the Said Aaron Osgood his Heirs Executors and Administrators or any of them shall well and truly pay to the said John Erving his Executors or Administrators the Sum of One Hundred Pounds Lawfull Money with lawful Interest therefor on or before the fifteenth Day of November which will be in the year of our Lord Seventeen Hundred and Sixty Nine for the payment of which sum the said Aaron Osgood hath given his bond of the same date with this instrument as a Collateral Security of the penalty of Two Hundred Pounds Conditioned for the payment of One Hundred Pounds lawfull Money with lawfull Interest on or before the said fifteenth day of November Seventeen Hundred and Sixty Nine then the beforegoing Deed of Sale and Conveyance as well as the same bond shall become void...

John Erving was the very wealthy and extremely successful Boston Merchant after whom Erving, MA is named. Among other things, Erving was a prodigious lender, including among his debtors Paul Revere, John Hancock, and the then Colony of Massachusetts Bay

Early Deed For Sale of Land, dated Aug. 28, 1800. It is for property in Portland, Maine (then a part of Massachusetts) sold to Shirley Erving by Anne Smith & Henry Smith. Body of the document reads in part as follows:

KNOW all Men by these Presents,
That We Anne Smith Widow & Henry Smith Merchant both of Boston in the County of Suffolk & Commonwealth of Massachusetts Admors. of the Estate of Oliver Smith late of the same Boston Druggist deceased in consideration of Twenty four hundred Seventy three Dollars to us paid by Shirley Erving of Portland in the County of Cumberland & Commonwealth aforesaid Physician~~
the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge, have remified, released, and forever quit-claimed, and do, for ourselves in our capacity of admors. by these presents, remise, release, and forever quit-claim unto the said Shirley Erving his Heirs and Assigns, a certain Lot of Land with the buildings thereon situate in said Portland bounded as follows beginning at a stake standing at the Southerly side of Middle Street in said Portland at the Northerly corner of a lot of land late belonging to the heirs of Samuel McLellan deceased, thence Easterly adjoining said street four rods & thirteen feet to land belonging to Joseph Chellus, Southerly by said Chellus land to Free Street, thence Westerly by said Free Street three rods to land belonging to the heirs of Joseph Cox deceased, thence Northerly Nineteen Degrees West for Rods by said land to the Easterly corner of Samuel McLellans Heir's Land, thence by said land to the bounds first mentioned, being the same lot of land with the buildings thereon which the said Erving purchased of the said Oliver Smith by his Deed bearing Date November 20, 1788 & reconveyed by said Erving to said Smith by his Mortgage Deed bearing Date the same 20th Day of November & by one other mortgage deed to us the said Admors. of the Estate of said Smith since his decease bearing Date the 22nd. Day of April, 1797~~~

Shirley Erving was the Grandson of John Erving, the very successful and extremely wealthy Boston Merchant after whom Erving, MA is named

Lease on a Farm in Dedham, MA, dated Mar. 11, 1746. The body of the document reads as follows:

These may Certifie that it is Concluded & Agreed on between John Erving of Boston Marchant on the one part, And Mr. Henry Allexander Husbandman late of Georges in the County of York ~~ on the other part viz. That the said John Erving doe lett & Rent to the said Henry Allexander for the Space of Five years, beginning from ye. 25th of March in the year One thousand, Seven hundred & Forty Seven, a Farme in Dedham commonly known by the Name of Loyd's Farme, to be used Occupyed & Improved by the said Allexander to his best Advantage dureing Sd. Term of Five years to the 25th of March which will be in the year One thousand Seven hundred & fifty two, for and in the Consideration of the Sum of Eighty pounds in Bills of Lawfull Credit in this Government old Tenor yearly for the first two years & for the other three years, One hundred Pounds yearly of the above Tenor. The above Sd. Erving repairing the House & Barn, And for what Fenceing either by Stone or Timber the said Allexander shall make new. ye above Sd. Erving promises to allow it out of the yearly Rent what the Expence of Said new Fence or wall shall amount to, as shall be adjudged by two or three indifferent persons appointed by them and that the Rent as they become due shall be paid in the value of money as it is now stated when this agreement was made in witness each party hath hereinto sett their hands this Eleventh day of March 1746/7 (Signed) Henry Allexander

Colonial Period Document, a Statement of Account, dated Aug. 16, 1767. It records the status of one Capt. John Keith's t account of Hartford Connecticu with John Erving merchant of Massachusetts.
