Connecticut Documents 8 CT 1775Connecticut country store ledger in handmade laid paper with light red column rules. It is for Job Macumber and covers the period July 1773 through May 1775
A circa 1778 note from Captain John Ensign to John Lawrence, Treasurer of the State of Connecticut. Ensign, Captain of Colonel Increase Moseleys Connecticut Militia Regiment, reports Sir, I send the rool (sic) of those men in my company that have done the duty of training twelve half days according to Act of Assembly by Saml (Samuel) Forbs (Forbes), Esq. and desire you to send the money to me by him .
Receipt for a bill of exchange. Dated 1761. Issued to Gerthem Breed of Norwich Connecticut. signed as Treas. by Talcott at Hartford.
This is a large financial ledger sheet for Shadrach Osborn of Connecticut dated 10th of June, 1787. It is approx 12 inches long X 15 inches wide with a very nice crown water mark in the paper. Document covers the period of 1784 through 1787. Scan only shows part of the document. Shadrach Osborn was a private in the Connecticut Militia during the Revolutionary War and also served as Commissary of Purchase. He is buried in Southbury Connecticut.
Revolutionary War era pay voucher dated March 21, 1783, paying "Captain Samuel LOCKWOOD Fourteen Pounds eighteen shillings and eight pence out of the Tax granted on one shilling on the pound...." This document has been signed by Oliver WOLCOTT, Jr., son of the Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Wolcott succeeded Alexander Hamilton as secretary of the treasury on February 2, 1795. He also helped to frame the new CT state constitution, and later served as governor. Captain LOCKWOOD was distinguished in his own right and of one of the oldest Connecticut families
NO PICTURE: Hazens Regiment, 1781; service voucher, plus pay order. (2 items). Hazens Regiment, also known as Congresss Own. (1: service voucher) dated Fishkill March 2d 1781 (Fishkill documents are also extremely rare). This may certify that Christopher Brady the bearer a soldier in late Moses Hazens Regiment belongs to the town of New Haven in the State of Connecticut and hath served in sd Regiment from the first day of January 1777 to the first day of January 1780. (Signed by): Wm Munson Capt., Jos: Torrey Major Comg Col Hazen Regiment. (2: pay order) Accompanying this service voucher is a partially printed and manuscript document from the Connecticut Pay Table at Hartford, dated 1781. It is for £58.2.7 in full payment for his service as a soldier. Brady signs with an X. Brady served at Brandywine, Germantown, Valley Forge, Monmouth, and later at the siege of Yorktown.

State of Connecticut Revolutionary War era pay voucher #1098 dated May 16, 1788, paying "Peter ARBOINE thirty pounds twelve shillings and eight pence out of the taxes appropriated for the payment of the Civil List." Signed by Eleazer WALES, George NOYES, and Oliver WOLCOTT, JR. Signed on reverse by Jonathan TUTTLE
3 Revolutionary War pay documents for Private Thomas Wiean. Third document states " These certify that Thomas Wiean served as a Private in the Connecticut line of the Continental Army in the 7th Regiment under Col. Neman Swift......Sept 19th 1780" Other names include Aspah Hall (?), James Thomson, Isaac Pratt (?), ______ Goodwin.
U.S. Rep. Elisha HALEY (Connecticut, Dem.) by J. L. EDWARDS, the head of the War Dept. Pension Office, re: a Revolutionary War veteran widow (from Connecticut) applying for pension benefits. The contents are as follows: "War Department, Pension Office, 14 February 1837. Sir, In answer to your letter of the 13th I have to inform you the claim of Olive MORGAN has been received and will be acted on as soon as the great press of business will permit.. I have the honor to be very respectfully your obt. servt, J.L. Edwards. At the bottom of the page appears Hon. Elisha HALEY, House of Representatives.
"To JOHN HULL and GERSHOM BULKLEY the 3rd, both of Fairfield in Fairfield County. Greetings. In the name of the Governor and Company of the State of Connecticut you and both of you are hereby required forthwith to appear before the County Court now sitting in Fairfield then and there to testify what both of you know concerning an action there depending wherein SARAH TOQUE (?) and EBENEZER BANKS and SARAH BANKS executors on the estate of EBENEZER BANKS late of said Fairfield. If you are not, to jail in penalty of the law in such case provided. Dated at Fairfield the 20th day of November 1783. PHILIP B. BRADLEY, Justice of the Peace." At the bottom left of the document is written "to any indifferent person...", On the reverse of the document is written the following: "Then I read the within summons in the hearing of the within named JOHN HULL and GERSHOM BULKLEY the 3rd both of Fairfield in the County of Fairfield. Test. Daniel OSBORN Indifferent Person."
This document is dated June 8, 1761 and is an appointment of Ezekiel Williams as Captain of a company of soldiers in the Colony of Connecticut Militia by Colonial Governor of the Colony of Connecticut, Thomas Fitch. It is also signed by George Wyllys, Command Sec. of the Colony. Williams is of the family of William Williams, Signer of the Declaration of Independence.
A letter originating in Ledyard, CT that concerns a pension for Mrs. JANE BURTOT, the widow of Revolutionary War Sergeant BILLINGS BURTOT. The letter is addressed to Hon. JAMES L. EDWARDS, the federal commissioner of pensions. At the bottom of the page appears "Care of Hon. Elisha HALEY, M.C." In this case, M.C. is the abbreviation of Member of Congress. Elisha Haley was a Representative from Connecticut to the United States Congress 1835-39.
