SAMUEL HINCKLEY, the son of Governor Thomas Hinckley, married on 13 November, 1676, Sarah
the daughter of Thomas Pope. Samuel Hinckley died "ye 19 of March 1697" and his
son Elnathan was born "29 Decem 1698," according to the Barnstable town records
[ante, VI: 98]. He made his will On 12 March, 1696/7, his inventory was taken on 2 April,
1697, and the will was probated on 7 April, 1697, as shown by the copies here presented,
therefore the date of his death must have been recorded in new style, and the date of
Elnathan's birth must have been an error of the recording clerk.Sarah married first Samuel
Hinckley and second Thomas Huckens.
THOMAS1 HUCKENS of Barnstable married, first, Mary Wells, by whom he had three daughters:
Lydia, died young; Mary, married Samuel Storrs; Elizabeth, died young. The wife Mary died
in 1648, and, in less than four months, Thomas1 Huckens married Rose, widow of Hugh
Hyllier of Yarmouth.
Thomas and Rose Huckens had four children born at Barnstable: John2 Huckens, born
"About ye of August 1649", married Hope Chipman3 (Hope2 Howland, John1); Thomas2
Huckens, born 25 April, 1651, married, first, Hannah Chipmang (Hope2 Howland, John1) and
second, widow Sarah (Pope) Hinckley; Hannah2 Huckens, born 14 October, 1653, married James
Gorham3 (Desire2 Howland, John1); Joseph2 Hilckens, born 21 February, 1655, died 9
November, 1679, without issue, and apparently unmarried.
Literal copies of the Barnstable town records of these births, marriages and deaths will
be found in our fifth, sixth, tenth and twelfth volumes.
John2 Huckens (Thomas1) was married, at Barnstable, on 10 August, 1670, to Hope
Chipman3 (Desire2 flozoland, John1), by whom he had five children: Elizabeth, Mary,
Experience, Hope and Mehitable. Four of the children were recorded at Barnstable (see our
sixth volume), and the settlement of the father's estate proves that there was also a
daughter Mehitable.
Thomas Huckins and the widow Sarah Hinckley were married on 17 August, 1698 [ante, VI:
239], and Thomas died intestate before 5 October, 1714, when his inventory was taken. On
15 October, 1714, his son John Huckins was appointed administrator and, with the widow
