bullet Susanna PACKARD was born on 3 Apr 1718 in Bridgewater, MA. Parents: Daniel PACKARD and Mary (5) HARRIS.

bullet Susanna PACKARD was born on 21 Feb 1726 in Bridgewater, MA. She died on 29 Nov 1808. Parents: Jonathan (4) PACKARD and Abigal(4) THOMPSON.

bullet Susanna PACKARD was born about 1755 in Brookfield or Bridgewater, MA?. Indicated as a possible dau. via the Packard Family Association. I have no current data to support it. The Charles Wight, Packard Genealogy has simply a "Susanna m. 1776." Her birth date is simply a placekeeper based on a marriage age of about 20. Parents: Joseph PACKARD Captain and Sarah JOHNSON.

She was married to Theopholis FOSTER on 22 Jun 1775 in Brookfield, MA. (2366)(2367)

bullet Susanna PACKARD Parents: Ensign Samuel (2) PACKARD Ensign and Elizabeth LATHROP.

She was married to John SNELL in 1715.

bullet Susanna (5) PACKARD was born on 11 Mar 1724 in Bridgewater, MA.

bullet Susannah PACKARD Parents: Reuben PACKARD and Anna PERKINS.

bullet Temperance E PACKARD(448) was born about 1749 in Brookfield, MA ?. To date, no record of her birth has been found, although it is obvious she existed. Brookfield was apparently more remotely settled than Bridgewater, and existing records are far less detailed than in Bridgewater. The Reverend Theophilus Packard's genealogy mentions Joseph & Sarah, Timothy and Betty, Temperance, etc., but does not mention who their parents were. Recent documentation supports Timothy and Betty as son and daughter-in-law of Joseph Packard and Sarah Johnson. (See Timothy Packard)

See Joseph Packard notes for a more detailed account of this family. She died on 30 Dec 1834 in Hardwick, Ma.(306) She (Temperance) is buried in the old portion of cemetery, next to husband in Hardwick."

Place keeper note for Temperance Bruce Edson, who apparently supplied some of the oral history for family notes recorded in the late 1800's and early 1900's:

Note dated April 3, 1917: "Cousin Ella Torrey told Elizabeth that her mother's cousin, Mrs. Edson, told her that the Bruces are descended from one of the Winslows. This was in the (18)70's. Mrs. Edson (who died some 30 years ago) was dau. of one of "grandfather Bruce's brothers." They all went west to NY and Ohio. She wasn't the dau. of Winslow (Bruce), for she spoke of her "Uncle Winslow." There is later a Temperance Packard found in Grafton County, Lyme, NH in 1840 on P. 231.

There are virtually no Temperance Packards other than Temperance as wife of John Bruce, so I strongly suspect this be a later descendant of a Brookfield Packard family . Adjacent names in Lyme are John and Abigail Thompson, Gilbert, Shaw, Bartlett. Parents: Joseph PACKARD Captain and Sarah JOHNSON.

She was married to John (4) BRUCE on 30 Apr 1772 in Brookfield, MA.(2368) Children were: Charles BRUCE d young, Chester BRUCE d. young, Joseph BRUCE, John (6) BRUCE, Levi BRUCE, Winslow BRUCE, Packard BRUCE, Timothy (6) BRUCE.

bullet Thomas (2) PACKARD was born in 1640.(103) Had one son, Joseph. He died prob bef. 1684. Not sure where this date came from, but is probably in error as Thomas is not mentioned in Samuel Packard's will of 1684. Parents: Samuel (1) PACKARD and Widow Elizabeth ______ PACKARD.

He was married to E SMITH. Children were: Joseph (Son of Thomas 2) PACKARD.

bullet Thomas (4) PACKARD was born on 21 Sep 1732 in Bridgewater, MA. (585) Parents: Abiel (3) PACKARD Capt. and Sarah AMES.

Children were: Parmenas PACKARD, Silines (5) PACKARD, Mary PACKARD, Thomas, Jr. PACKARD, Zeba PACKARD, Elijah PACKARD, Cyrus PACKARD, Daniel PACKARD.

bulletThomas, Jr. PACKARD was born on 20 Aug 1764 in Bridgewater, MA. Parents: Thomas (4) PACKARD and Mary HOWARD.

bullet Timothy PACKARD Deacon(2369) was born in 1752 in Bridgewater, or Brookfield MA ?.(2370) He was living between 1801 and 1826 in New Salem, MA. (2371) He died after 1835 in Poss Monson, Ma. (2372) This is a placekeeper date. A Timothy is shown to be active in Monson around this time period, with the latest date mentioned that of 1835 as a donor to the Flynt-Packard Library. Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots: Volume 3

PACKARD Timothy Main St Cem, Munson MA 55

Until recently, the other siblings of Temperance Packard were known only by innuendo, Packard family genealogies and notes, and scant records. Winslow Packard, a brother and a minister, died prematurely, in the second year or so of his marriage. Of Timothy Packard nothing was known, save a marriage record from the Brookfield Vital Record and a few scant remarks from the Wight genealogy: "Brookfield: Timothy m. Betty. They had ch. bpt. 1775 Joseph, 1777 Olive & Betsy, twins, 1779 Sally 1775."

Thanks to an accounting of early church records from New Salem, MA, (NEHGR 113:34) Timothy now seems to have migrated at some time from Brookfield to New Salem, and thence to Monson, MA. We are also supplied with a possible record of the mother Sarah, of whom so little is known. We find as well that he (or a close family member) almost certainly had a son Winslow, named for his brother who suffered an early death. While these deductions are not entirely conclusive, there are "ties that bind," so to speak.

New Salem Church Records:

In NEHGR 113:38), (Deacon) Timothy and Betty, are found as members in the Old Parish Church records in New Salem noted as being probably about 1805 with widow Sarah Packard--she being by then about 70-80 years of age, according to her birth date. Since Sarah is never dismissed, as is Timothy, it is possible that she died in New Salem, or simply that no record was made of her death. There is no death record for her in New Salem VRs, however. There are only two Packards in these records: Timothy and Winslow.

On April 20, 1817, Deacon Timothy Packard & Betty his wife removed to Monson--dismissed

On May 21, 1817, Winslow Packard & wife Rachel were voted upon as members.

On April 12, 1818, Winslow Packard & Wife Rachel removed & dismissed to Monson.

New Salem Public Records:

A Timothy Packard is found as a land record grantee 1801-1840 in Franklin County, New Salem VR. Timothy is found as a grantor 1803-1826, and Timothy Jr. a grantee 1817-1818. A Winslow is a grantee 1823-1835, and a Winslow is grantor 1829-1841.

These records are a little confusing as both Timothy and Betty, and Winslow and Rachel remove to Monson between 1817-1818. Either they return to New Salem, conduct land sales there from elsewhere, or these records include land exchanges of children, as well.

New Salem Vital Records:

Births:
All Packard births, (see records) save one for a Davis Packard, are those of A Winslow Packard, wife unmentioned, Winslow Packard, wife Rachel, and Winslow Packard, wife Lydia, (possibly the son of Timothy's son Winslow) The birth (baptismal) dates are between 1812 and 1817, except for the Winslow who married Lydia and had a child in 1848. the records indicate that several children were baptised at once in 1817.

All Marriages: Packard

Monson Records:

Monson, was originally a part of Springfield, and was incorporated as a town, about 1759. In 1657 it was a grant of 200 acres given to Richard Fellows on the condition that he establish a tavern for travelers between Springfield and Brookfield. Due to various troubles, including those with Indians, he ultimately abandoned the grant, others came, went and stayed, and some 100 years later the town of Monson was formalized. The single volume to be found on Monson, gives some additional clues, but is somewhat short on classic documentation!

We don't really know if some the mentions of Timothy are that of Sr. or later, perhaps, of a Timothy Jr. Further, the notation that he was among contributors to the First Monson Academy in abt 1806, is prior to the only known record of his departure from Salem in 1817.

In the History of Monson, Massachusetts: P 63-64: " A Timothy Packard Sr. had a shop near "Conant's pond on the Wales Road where he made lead pipe by rolling the lead out in sheets and molding it around an iron rod, after which the seam was soldered the whole length of the pipe. He sold to Mason Moulton about 1829. " P. 28: a Timothy Packard was among Monson contributors to the building of the First Monson Academy, which opened in 1806. P. 57: The Flynt and Packard Library, named for its donors was established in 1835 for benefit of the Monson Academy. P. 74: A Louis Packard is among those in a photo of employees? of the Branch Mill Associates P. 85: Among earliest merchants is mentioned the successive ownership of Norcross and Flynt, . . . Flynt and Packard, William Packard and Son . . " The business was apparently a general merchandise store. P. 89: Timothy Packard was a successor owner of the Flynt Insurance Agency who conducted business at least as early as 1821 indicated by an extant document. P. 109: A William Packard was postmaster of Monson in 1841.

Parents: Joseph PACKARD Captain and Sarah JOHNSON.

He was married to Betty FAIRBANKS about 4 Nov 1773 in Brookfield, MA.(2373) (2374) According to Brookfield, MA documents, he had child, Sally, baptised in 1775. The Charles Wight, Packard Genealogy gives children as: ch. bpt. 1775, Joseph, 1777, Olive & Betsy, twins, 1779, Sally 1775. The Brookfield VR calls the twin of Betsy, "Polly."

Children were: child PACKARD, Joseph PACKARD, Betsy PACKARD, Polly PACKARD, Sally PACKARD, Jr Timothy PACKARD, Winslow PACKARD.

bullet Timothy PACKARD was born on 12 Apr 1735 in Bridgewater, MA. (2375) Parents: Abiel (3) PACKARD Capt. and Sarah AMES.

bulletJr Timothy PACKARD was born after 1780 in prob Brookfield, MA. Previous children are accounted for and this is simply a placekeeper. Parents: Timothy PACKARD Deacon and Betty FAIRBANKS.

bullet Winslow PACKARD(2376) was born about 1751 in BRIDGEWATER, BRISTOL, MA.(2377) (2168) He graduated in 1777 in Dartmouth College, MA.(2168) He died on 18 Feb 1784.(2168) A Packard's Progress newsletter gives this date of death as in question. While there is a Winslow Packard found later in Bennington VT and In Franklin Co, MA, this may well be children of The early Winslow and Timothy, etc.. A recent genealogy from Richard Packard, has that he became a minister in Wilmoth, Vermont, and like Packard's Progress lists Abigail Moore as wife. This is further confirmed in a memoir of Z.S. Moore, NEHG I, 1847, in which he is noted as being born in Bridgewater, not Brookfield, in 1751.

Later, a Winslow Packard, unusual name, is found in Franklin County, MA, New Salem, together with a Joseph Packard on Page 123 of the 1840 Census. There are also two "Moore's" in New Salem and a Levi Johnson. Other adjacent name include Briggs and Rice. (Winslow married Abigail] These may well be close relatives of Winslow, Timothy and parents Joseph and Sarah.

There is also a Winslow Packard in Bennington, VT in township of Bennington in 1781, Census Page #284. Another mention by recall from the Bennington Volume by Jennings, or by another-- Westmoreland volume -- mentions a Winslow Packard, an ill-fated publisher, who had for a short time a paper in one of these locals. (check) Might he be a child of one of the Children of Joseph and Sara, or of Winslow, himself?

Mitchell attributes Winslow Packard to Joseph, son of John, with the comment that he (Joseph) had a son, graduated Dartmouth and went into the ministry.

Parents: Joseph PACKARD Captain and Sarah JOHNSON.

He was married to Abigal MOORE on 18 Feb 1782 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co, MA. (2167)(2168) There were several Moores in Brookfield, where, I believe, he was presumably born, or lived, though I can find no birth records for any of the Packard children other than Sara, who died young. See below

Note: In memoirs of the Rev. Z. S. Moore, D.D.(President of Amherst College, NEHG Register, Volume 1, October 1847, It is noted that one of his sisters (we have Abigail) married the Rev. Winslow Packard, who was born in Bridgewater in 1761, was graduated at Dartmouth College in 1777, settled over a church and society in Wilmington, Vt, July, 1781, and died Oct. 12, 1784. She (Abigail) afterward married Rev. Edmund Mills and lived in Sutton, Ms., and 3rd married after his decease, Rev. Dr. Emmons of Franklin.

The Father Of Z. S. Moore is noted as Judah, born in Worcester, May 24, 1730, w. m. Mary Swift, the dau. of Zephanian Swift, she being born at Sandwich. Her mother was Lydia Chipman. They were married May 23, 1753. His fau. was Jonathan Moore who m. a Mary Fullam. Jonathan was of Sudbury, and one of seven brothers. Their father was a native of Lancashire, England. Jonathan removed to Worcester about 1722 and died there about 1732.

bullet Winslow PACKARD was born about 1785 in Brookfield or New Salem, Ma?. This is a placekeeper, under the assumption that he was perhaps named for Timothy's recently deceased brother, Winslow who. m. Abigail Moore and died young. He was living between 1823 and 1841 in New Salem, MA.(2378) Three of these children were baptized in 1817 on the same day, and am assuming they were born after Joseph, whose birthdate was specifically mentioned as 1812. The naming of this child Joseph Fairbanks Packard, undoubtedly gives us the ancestral clue of a parental "Fairbanks" relationship: Timothy, his presumed father, maried a Fairbanks. The Fairbanks mentioned in the New Salem VR include Jonathan, Amos, Athol.

A daughter Maria R. Packard a. 28 y. (Mary?) marries Seth Williams, farmer, (a. 56) of Dana, son of Seth and Azuba Williams, as his second wife, May 9, 1849 in New Salem (New Salem VR p. 126) Parents: Timothy PACKARD Deacon and Betty FAIRBANKS.

He was married to Rachel FREEMAN about 1810 in New Salem, MA?.(2379) Assumption is that he was 20-25 years of age for peace keeping purposes. His first known child is born in New Salem in the latter of 1812. Children were: Joseph Fairbanks PACKARD, Hubbard Vaughan PACKARD, Jane PACKARD, Mary PACKARD, Winslow Jr PACKARD.

bullet Winslow Jr PACKARD was born abt 1820 ? in New Salem, MA. The New Salem VR (birth) records the following entry, p. 36: Mary Jane, d. Winslow, farmer, and Lydia, Nov 7. 1848. This would be a probable son of Winslow Packard, presumed son of Timothy.

There is also to be found on the same page a Sally Snow Packard, d. Davis, bp. Aug 7, 1825 (C.R.) This Winslow married "Lydia", and had a dau. Mary Jane, born Nov 7, 1848. Both First and Middle names are those of two of his father's sisters: Mary and Jane. Purely circumstantial at this point, for he is not among children listed in the New Salem VR. Parents: Winslow PACKARD and Rachel FREEMAN.

bullet Zaccheus (3) PACKARD was born on 4 Sep 1693 in Bridgewater, MA. (2380) He has reference number 2nd of the name. Parents: Zaccheus 2 PACKARD and Sarah HOWARD.

She was married to John WE(I)NSLEY .(2389) (2390) Children were: Sarah WE(I)NSLEY .

bullet William PADDY died in Sep 1658 in Boston, MA.(2391)

He was married to Mary (PAYTON) SHORE on 10 Mar 1651 in Boston Ma.(2392) This is his second wife, Paiton or Payton, as so noted in his will of 1658. By his will it would seem that of the 11 children mentioned, Sarah and Mary were of her first marriage.

NEHGR 4:132-- She was the dau. of Capt. Bezaleel Payton and Mary Greenough (or Greenaway) who were married 19 Oct 1642. Mary was born 7 May, 1646 and first married Sampson Shore. he died previous to 3 Dec. 1651, when she married as Deacon William Paddy. She died Boston, 21 Oct, 1675, aged about 60 years.

John Winslow Sr's (will, 1674) mention of a bequest to "Mr Paddyes widdow" of five pounds may have referred to this Mary. Children were: Elizabeth PADDY.

bullet John PARMENTER Boston Housewright died after 1688 in Boston, Taunton, MA?. (2396) His dau. Elizabeth is born in this year by Hannah Williams Parmenter, his second wife. He was born in Unknown. If he is as indicated by several sources the son of John and Anne or Amy, they are of Sudbury early, supported by the vital records of those towns and by Savage.

However, it is certain he was not John2 who remained and died in Sudbury. In the "Marriages and Death"

NEHGR VI:390, (This reference is called by Savage confused with another John, which seems highly likely as Sudbury records substantiate a John w. marries Elizabeth). The references is as follows: Hannah Parmenter (w. marries John Eames) was the dau of John P. and Hannah Williams. The latter died August 12 and was buried on Copp's Hill, Boston . . . Hannah Williams was the daughter of Richard W. and Francis Dighton . . .John Parmenter was the son of John and Anna, and was born in 1636. (This is a reference to John2, for the original emigrant father is then mentioned.)

In a Leonard Memoir, Hannah also is said to have married a John Parmenter, but no further details are given and no reference to the Sudbury John's are made.

Savage III:360 says of Parmenter: "JOHN, Boston, housewright, by w. Judith had Judith, b. 14 Feb. 1667, d. soon . . Judith, again, 17 July 1672; . . .and by sec. w. Hannah, d. prob. of Richard Williams of Taunton, had Eliz. again, 3 Sept. 1688."

He further says that John3 of Sudbury, however, son of sec. John, by w. Eliz. had Sarah, May, Eliza. John, (1678) Joseph; and d. prob. 1710. "Confus of this last John, with ano. seems to have attend. the dilig collector in Genal Reg.VI: 390. "John, Boston, housewright, by w. Judith had Judith, b. 14 Feb. 1667; d. soon; Eliz 8 Feb 1668; John, 31 Oct. 1670, d. soon; Judith, again 17 July 1672; John again, 17 Nov. 1674; and Lydia, Jan. 1677; and by dau. prob. of Richard Williams of Taunton, had Eliz again, 3 Sept 1688."

He was married to Hannah WILLIAMS before 1688. (2397)(2398) There were apparently several Parmenters in the colony at this time, so descent from John 1 of Sudbury is more than unclear. There is in Braintree early a Robert Parmenter who marries a Leah, and also has a son John, as well as perhaps others. For the time being this is a placekeeper to establish a possible Judith in Taunton for Winslow to have married.

He was married to Judith 1st wife before 1667 in Boston, MA? or Sudbury, MA?. (2399) The birth of his first child, Judith by his first wife Judith w. died young was in 1667. Children were: Judith2 PARMENTER .

bullet Deacon John1 PARMENTER was born about 1588 in England. (2400)(2401) he was living in Bures St. Mary, co. Essex, near Little Yeldham.

He Freeman Boston or Sudbury MA on 13 May 1640 in Sudbury, Middlesex, MA. (2402) He died in May 1671 in Roxbury, MA. (2403) In his will he calls his wife Annis and mentions dau. Woods (Mary w. of John), John3 Parmenter (John 2 is by now dead), cousin "Cheever, shoemaker in Boston, Cousing John Stebbins.

He was married to Bridget. (2404) When Bridget dies, he removes to Roxbury and marries his second wife, "Anne, Annis or Agnes (Bayford) (Chandler) Dane. It was his second marriage and her third. Children were: John2 PARMENTER Jr..

He was married to Anne (Agnes/Annis) DANE (BAYFORD) (CHANDLER) on 9 Aug 1660 in Roxbury, MA.(2405)

bullet John2 PARMENTER Jr. Freeman 1643 on 10 May 1643 in Boston or Sudbury, MA. (2406) He emigrated from England. (235) "He was born in England and came to New England with his father, mother and sister, and remained in Sudbury when his father moved to Roxbury." Early Boston records and Sudbury records document many of his children. Parents: Deacon John1 PARMENTER and Bridget.

He was married to Anne (Amy) before 1685 in Sudbury, Middlesex, MA. (2407) This is the date of his son David's birth -- but he earlier had a child born Benjamin, whose birth date is not mentioned. So undoubtedly he was married several years before this date.

bullet Judith2 PARMENTER was born on 17 Jul 1672 in Boston, MA. (2408) Probably, as he was housewright at this time and had wife Judith. As young Judith was underage when her mother died, it is likely that she was either married then, or lived with her stepmother Hannah Williams Parmenter and John in Taunton, MA.

Parents: John PARMENTER Boston Housewright and Judith 1st wife.
