John2 LEACH History of Salem,
MA, Sidney Perley, I:118) John Leach2, probably married Sarah Conant. Children: Sarah,
baptized June 6, 1652; Remember, baptized Nov. 3, 1661; Hannah baptized Nov 3, 1661.
Torrey thinks he may have died before 1662. Parents: Lawrence
LEACH and Elizabeth.
He was married to Sarah CONANT before 1652 in Salem, MA. (2042) Estimated: Date of first born child. Torrey is unsure about her surname (p. 457). Her surname comes from the Salem, MA, history by Sidney Perley I:118. Children were: Sarah LEACH, Remember LEACH, Hannah LEACH.

Lawrence LEACH was born about
1580 in England.(2043) Torrey questions the date
of his birth 1577-1580? He immigrated about 1629.(2044)
Immigration of 1629:
p. 118,119: Lawrence Leach, "a careful and painful man about forty-nine years
old.".
p. 127 (Captain Endicotts letter detailing vessels and list of persons 1628/9) "We
desire yo(u) to take notice of one Lawrence Leech who we haue found a painfull &
carefull man, and we doubt not butt hee will continue his dilligence; lett him haue
deserving respect." He died on 24 Jun 1662 in Salem, MA. (2045) History of Salem, MA: I:197: Lawrence Leach
arrived in the colony about 1628/9 and in May 1630 was among those found in the Colonial
records as desirous of becoming a freeman. A brother John was admitted an inhabitant in
1636/7, but not granted land. (p. 419) It is here noted that John did not bring his wife
and died in the spring of 1659, leaving property to his grandnephew, John Leach. This may
possibly be the John Leach Sr. Torrey has listed (p. 457) as simply "(1655)."
Torrey does not supply wife or other data on this John Sr.
Ibid: 118: he is noted as having been born about 1580, lived in Salem, married Elizabeth
_____. and he dying about 1662. She was his widow in 1670. Children noted as Richard, b.
about 1617, John, born about 16_____.
Ibid 1: 293 (Town Records April 6, 1635): Lawrence Leach and Richard Ingersol promise to
made a sufficient highway between their lots for carts to bring home wool.
Ibid 1:423 (Feb 1636/7) Lawrence Leach was granted one hundred acres of upland and six
acres of marsh "over against Mrs. Daniels."
Ibid1: 318: (Dec 31, 1638) Lawrench Leach is among seven men designated to manage the
settlement's affairs for the next year. About this time he is also among those serving the
Jury at Court sessions.
Ibid 1:316: Lawrence Leach is among those included in the lot divisions of North field
(sic)
abt 1660.
Ibid 1:454 Robert Lee(a)ch: In 1636, a Robert Leech is among those receiving a land grant
though no specific acreage is mentioned. A footnote says that following the name of
Mr.Leech there was written and then canceled: numerous names including Samuell More and
Thos. Laythrop. Does this indicate a division of his land among others, due to death or
other?
Ibid I: 463: In Dec. of 1637 Robt Leech is again mentioned in the town records as
receiving a land grant of 2 acres and as having 1 person in his family . Lawrence Leech,
just above is noted as having five in his family and receiving 3 acres.
Ibid II:9: John Leach served the court 1679, 1681. Lawrence served numerous times, the and
in various capacities. Richard served, the last noted as 1672.
Ibid II: 68: At a town meeting May 15, 1639: "Lawrence Leach's two sons" were
granted 70 acres, relinquishing their former smaller grants.
Ibid II:191: in 1665 A John Friend dies and sells his mill to Lawrence Leach of Salem, but
the deed was not passed until after 1662 as it was assessed at a value of 40 pounds, 30
pounds having been paid and ten pounds remaining. Lawrence's son John paid the balance and
received deed of it.. "John Leech lived here and was the miller until 1669, at which
time he conveyed the property to John Dodge Jr. of Beverly." (Essex Registry of
Deeds)''
Ibid III:328: "Lawrence Leach, the immigrant, lived on the southerly side of what is
